Uganda Coffee Development Authority came third in the recently concluded Jinja Agricultural Show. The show now in its 25th year attracted hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of show goers for the weeklong event. Each year the organisers of the show – the Uganda National Farmers Federation gives award to the top exhibitors and UCDA emerged third out of a total of 650 exhibitors.
The theme of this year’s agricultural show was “Managing the Challenges of Climate Change for Sustainable Agriculture”. UCDA ably demonstrated different ways to manage climate change such as mulching, drip irrigation, water harvesting among others.
UCDA showcased the entire coffee lifespan right from the farm to the cup. On hand to explain the different processes along the coffee value chain were staff from the directorates of Development Services, Quality and Regulatory Services, Strategy and Business Development Services and Corporate Services. They demonstrated coffee drying on a raised wire mesh bed and in a low cost solar greenhouse, the hulling process, roasting of coffee and coffee brewing.
